I met Katie and Matt and their beautiful boys a few weeks ago at Virmond Park on a humid summer evening for this lovely family session. Their sweet and smiley little darlings made this session so easy breezy that we even had the time (and energy 🤣) to squeeze in an outfit and scenery change! 💗 In the small world department, Matt found me through a random google search and recognized another family on my website, who just so happened to be his high school principal and baseball coach and also one of my dear friends. AND oddly enough, my family was hanging out in Orlando for AAU basketball with that dear friend and his family when I received Matt’s email!
The following day, I received an email regarding a special project that I’ve been a part of with the March of Dimes for the past several years and I noticed Matt and Katie’s names on my list. 💗 I volunteer some time each year to capture portraits of children and adults who spent time in the NICU as babies. The portraits are displayed at the March of Dimes annual Milwaukee event, Signature Chefs Feeding Motherhood Milwaukee. The U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for families of color. This event helps to raise critical funds to support every stage of the motherhood journey—from prenatal care to postpartum recovery. The March of Dimes mission includes expanding access to care, addressing inequities in maternal health, and strengthening families across Wisconsin.
A week after I photographed Matt and Katie’s family for this session, I also had the honor of photographing their darling boys, both NICU graduates, for this special annual project. It turns out, that they are the Ambassador family for this year’s event. Katie is also a neonatologist at Children’s Hospital and Matt serves on the March of Dimes Milwaukee Board. Some might call this all a random coincidence, but a meaningful connection like this is more than that. To me, it’s synchronicity. And upon meeting Matt and Katie and their sweet, special boys, I feel certain that our paths crossed for a reason. Matt and Katie, I loved the opportunity to capture your beautiful family.
