Josh and Mackenzie are getting married. And to say that I was honored to be a part of the extraordinary day that Josh asked her to be his wife is the understatement of the century.

Josh contacted me a few months ago asking me to be a part of his very special, very creative, very romantic plan. He was going to propose to his girlfriend, Mackenzie, and had planned a scavenger hunt which would lead his true love all around Milwaukee on a day of pampering, with stops along the way at some of the most important landmarks of their relationship.  Josh had hired a driver and would place clues around town and he was hoping that I could hang back in the distance and capture it all. It was to happen on Sweetest Day. He didn’t know that initially, but when Mackenzie asked him if he was planning anything, Josh and I agreed this was perfect. Perhaps Mackenzie would think his little trail of love notes was simply in honor of the special holiday set aside to bestow romantic expressions.

What Josh didn’t know was this beautiful journey was also to take place exactly one year after my husband, Mark, had planned a similar scavenger hunt in honor of our 10th anniversary. If you know me or follow my blog, then you already know that my romantic treasure trail was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life and that my beloved Mark passed away unexpectedly just a few days later.

Needless to say, Josh and Mackenzie’s incredible adventure that day also had profound meaning for me. I can’t even describe the excitement and anticipation I felt as I lurked in the bushes or crouched in the back of my Jeep, waiting to capture Mackenzie’s reaction to her sweetheart’s romantic gestures. What a crazy fun, momentous, remarkable and deeply meaningful journey to be a part of.  As I spent the day racing from one destination to the next,  I couldn’t help but think about how there are thousands of other photographers that Josh could have found on the internet when he searched for someone to help carry out his plan. But somehow, he found me. Today, I am beyond honored to share the prelude to Josh and Mackenzie’s next chapter with you:
